Bathymetry maps are crucial for studying ocean dynamics, currents and tides, as well as for ship safety. Several campaigns to map seafloor bathymetry through ship soundings have been proposed, but only small fractions of the Arctic Ocean have ever been covered.

More specifically, mapped International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) Version 3.0 Most ocean science relies on a geospatial infrastructure that is built from bathymetry data collected from ships underway, archived, and converted into maps and digital grids. Our knowledge of the depth and shape of the Arctic Ocean floor - its bathymetry - is insufficient. Owing to year-round sea-ice coverage and the cost of research in this remote region, much of the Bathymetry information. The International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) was initiated 1997 and has since been the authoritative source of bathymetry for the Arctic Ocean. In 2017, IBCAO merged its efforts with the Nippon Foundation-GEBCO-Seabed 2030 Project, with the goal of mapping the global seafloor by 2030. 2015 (English) In: Arctic, ISSN 0004-0843, E-ISSN 1923-1245, Vol. 68, no 1, p.

This map is a visualization of ocean depths relative to sea level. All surfaces above the sea level are colorless on this map because terrestrial areas are not represented in bathymetry.

Since 2018, the team has contributed to the 4.0 IBCAO map with data mainly obtained through the multibeam bathymetry in oceanographic campaigns in the Arctic, specially in the western area in the

The details of algorithm used for the development of Arctic bathymetry can be referred to the paper from Smith and Sandwell . The assumed correlation in the wavelength between the downward continued gravity and bathymetry is between 15 and 160 km. In the Arctic, there might be errors on the long wavelength components in the gravity. The existing bathymetry map of the Arctic is a compilation of ship soundings and digitized contours.
